Course content:
This course is designed not only for garage service technicians who are new to air conditioning technology and service procedures, but also for technicians with some experience using automated gas retrieval equipment.
The aim of this course is to provide delegates with the underpinning knowledge and practical skills required for air conditioning servicing on passenger cars. This course will also cover diagnosis of commong refrigerant circuit problems and safe working practice with vehicle air conditioning systems in accordance with the standards specified by current legislation.
Completeion of this course will enable a refrigerant handling certificate to be ontained. Such certification will be a legal requirement for anyone wishing to handle refrigerant systems within the automotive industry.

This course is divided into linked modules & subject areas, which allow the essential theory & practical skills knowledge to be delivered effectively. The modules & subject areas cover the following topics:
- Introduction to air conditioning & essential knowledge.
- Refrigerant systems & cycles.
- Electrical system & design.
- Pressure control.
- Workshop health & safety procedures. COSHH.
- Refrigerant system fault diagnosis.
- Service equipment & procedures.
- Safe handling of refrigerants & environmental concerns.
Attainment:
On successful completion of the course, the trainee will be able to:
- Identify the components of a typical air conditioning system and state their exact function. They will be conversant with all stages of the refrigeration cycle and be able to correctly identify the states abs conditions applicable to each one.
- Carry out typical gas evacuation & charge procedures on a vehicle air conditioning system and perform the necessary pre & post charge tests and checks.
- Perform individual component tests to identify component or circuit connection faults.
Prerequisites and recommended reading prior to attending course:
Familiarity with air conditioning service equipment will be a distinct advantage and prior attendance on an appropriate equipment users course is recommended.
Assessment & certification:
Delegates will be expected to complete a course examination and achieve a pass mark of 70% or more.
A certificate of competence will be issued upon completion of this.
To obtian full diagnostic technician status, the delegate is required to complete the Diagnostc Technician one day practical & theory test. Upon successful completion, the delegate will be awarded with Bosch Diagnostic Technician status & certification, awarded by the Institute of the Motor Industry (IMI).

All Bosch Diagnostic Technician programme courses are co-certified by the Institute of the Motor Industry (IMI) QAA scheme.
