Course Provider: Bosch.
Course Title: Essential Test Procedures.
Course Category: Vehicle Systems Electronic.
Course Code: VSE1.
Duration: 2 Days.
Programme: Diagnostic Technician Programme.
Course content:
This course has been developed for garage service technicians who carry out electrical test & diagnosis on modern vehicle systems. The focus is to provide delegates with a working knowledge of the test procedures that allow correct diagnosis of system & circuit faults.
The theoretical underpinning instruction and practical diagnostic tests will provide trainees with sound foundation knowledge of auto electrical principles & test procedures using digital multi meters & multi scope equipment. Attendance on this course is a prerequisite to further attendance & successful development on other vehicle systems courses in the Bosch programme.
Modules & subject areas:
This course is divided into linked modules & subject areas, which allow the essential theory & practical skills knowledge to be delivered effectively. The modules & subject areas cover the following topics:
- The electrical values.
- Electrical measurement.
- Identification of typical circuit symbols & use of wiring diagrams.
- Test methods for circuit continuity, insulation & resistance.
- Electrical properties & the testing of series & parallel circuits.
- Battery & energy systems operation, testing & diagnosis.
- Test methods for circuits using voltage drop measurements.
Attainment:
On completion of the course, the trainee will be able to:
- Refer to a typical system wiring diagram, identify the electrical components & the current paths connecting then to the control units of the system.
- Complete the electrical test procedure for the electrical systems on a typical vehicle or demo test circuit.
- Carry out correct test procedures using voltage drop, resistance, current and voltage measurements to determine circuit condition & identify faults which may be present in vehicle system circuits.
Prerequisites and recommended reading prior to attending course:
Delegates may wish to have attended the BIS courses prior to attendance on the VSE1 course, though this is not essential.
Assessment & certification:
Delegates will be expected to complete a course examination and achieve a pass mark of 70% or more.
A certificate of competence will be issued upon completion of this.
To obtian full diagnostic technician status, the delegate is required to complete the Diagnostc Technician one day practical & theory test. Upon successful completion, the delegate will be awarded with Bosch Diagnostic Technician status & certification, awarded by the Institute of the Motor Industry (IMI).
Accreditation:
All Bosch Diagnostic Technician programme courses are co-certified by the Institute of the Motor Industry (IMI) QAA scheme.
Recommended reading:
It may be benficial for prospective delegates to read the following publications prior to attendance on the VSE1 course:
Motor Vehicle Battery & Electrical Systems (Bosch part number 1 987 722 143)
Alternators & Starter Motors (Bosch part number 1 987 722 128)
