Course Provider: Bosch.
Course Title: Solenoid Controlled Pump Diagnosis.
Course Category: Vehicle Systems Diesel.
Course Code: VSD14.
Duration: 1 Day.
Programme: Diesel Diagnostic Technician Programme.
Course content:
Since the successful introduction of VE-EDC systems in 1988, Bosch has continued its development programme of fuel injection equipment. The most significant change in diesel injection technology is the provision of much higher injection pressures at the nozzle and more accurate control of the fuel delivery to the engine when relating to power and exhaust emissions. Soot, NOx, CO and even noise levels are some of the prime concerns in today’s research & development programmes.
The aim of this course is to provide the automotive technician with an overview of the two latest electronically controlled distributor pump designs, VR & VP, otherwise known as solenoid-valve controlled pumps. The use of the latest KTS tester will give technicians a comprehensive vehicle diagnosis & repair capability.
Modules and subject areas
The course is divided into linked modules and subject areas,
which allow the essential underpinning theory and practical skills knowledge to be
delivered effectively. The course modules and subject areas include the following
topics:
Attainment
On successful completion of VSD 14 delegates will be able to:
Prerequisites and Recommended Reading
The minimum prerequisite for this advanced vehicle
systems training course is the completion of course VSD 12, which provides a thorough
background to basic sensors and actuators and diesel theory. Delegates should also
have experience with typical oscilloscope and diagnostic tester operation. Prior
attendance on course VSTD 9 “Diagnosis using the Oscilloscope” is strongly recommended
as well as the appropriate equipment user’s courses.
Recommended literature for prior reading is the Bosch publication:
Electronic Diesel
Control EDC (Part No. 1987722135)
Distributor-Type Diesel Fuel-Injection Pumps (Part
No. 1987722144)

Assessment and Certification
The tests and practical tasks will be carried out using
Bosch test equipment, service information, training notes and course material.
Delegates will be expected to complete a course examination.
A certificate of competence will be issued to those achieving a pass mark of 70% or over.
To obtain full Diesel Diagnostic Technician status the delegate is required to complete
the Diesel Diagnostic Technician, one day practical and theory test.
Upon successful
completion, the delegate will be awarded with Bosch Diesel Diagnostic Technician
status and certificate, awarded by the Institute of the Motor Industry (IMI).
Accreditation
All Bosch Diesel Diagnostic Technician programme courses are co-certified
by the Institute of the Motor Industry (IMI) QAA scheme.
