Course Provider: Bosch.

Course Title: Unit Pump System Diagnosis.

Course Category: Vehicle Systems Diesel.

Course Code: VSD19.

Duration: 1 Day.

Programme: Diesel Diagnostic Technician Programme.

Course content:

The Unit Pump provides an alternative system for the engine manufacturer to adopt particularly where space in the cylinder head is restricted. Using an electronically controlled pump per cylinder the manufacturer can locate the injection nozzle via an injection pipe in the optimum position centred above the piston and thus utilise high injection pressures to achieve better atomisation of the fuel.

This system is currently being used on a variety of Mercedes commercial vehicles to which this course applies. Using the Bosch diagnostic system tester it is possible to diagnose various kinds of malfunctions including injector flow-rates.

The aim of this course is to provide the underpinning knowledge required to undertake diagnosis and repair work on this type of system. Use will also be made of the latest garage testers/simulators to provide visual interpretation and analysis of various sensor/actuator signals. Vehicles will be made available to provide hands-on experience where possible.

Modules & subject areas:

The course module and subject areas include the following topics:

Attainment:

On successful completion of VSD 19 delegates will be able to:

Prerequisites and recommended reading prior to attending course:

The minimum prerequisite for this advanced vehicle systems training course is the successful completion of course VSD 12, which provides a thorough background to basic sensors, actuators and diesel theory. Delegates should also have experience with typical oscilloscope and diagnostic tester operation. Prior attendance on course VSTD 9 “Diagnosis using the Oscilloscope” is strongly recommended as well as the appropriate equipment user’s courses.

Assessment & certification:

The tests and practical tasks will be carried out using Bosch test equipment, service information, training notes and course material.

Delegates will be expected to complete a course examination.

A certificate of competence will be issued to those achieving a pass mark of 70% or over.

To obtain full Diesel Diagnostic Technician status the delegate is required to complete the Diesel Diagnostic Technician, one day practical and theory test.
Upon successful completion, the delegate will be awarded with Bosch Diesel Diagnostic Technician status and certificate, awarded by the Institute of the Motor Industry (IMI).
